Week 44 ~ Survival Cookbook

Over the last 10 months, we have been preparing, stockpiling, and some of us have been preserving food. However, have you stopped to think about what you are going to make with all the items in your preparedness pantry?

Create Your Favorite Survival Meals

This week, we encourage you to gather your favorite recipes, write them down. Create your family Survival Cookbook.

Sure, peanut butter and crackers is a good snack, jerky will tide you over, the edible items you have saved up will keep you alive...but after a while the same things are going to get old and you will start craving some of your favorites meals you ate before the off grid went down. Now is the time to start thinking about what you can make with fewer ingredients that will satisfy both your hunger and your taste buds.

Consider what some of your family favorite meals are. One of our favorite recipe hacks is of the versatile and tasty classic, PIZZA! Did you know that you can make pizza dough out of just two, that’s right, two ingredients!? Greek yogurt and self-rising flour. Here is a recipe for the Two Ingredient Pizza Dough from the Food Network website. The best part about pizza is you can top it with just about anything. Don’t have tomato sauce, substitute olive oil and garlic for the base. This brings us to the next recipe hack, substitutions.

There will be times when certain ingredients are not available. Knowing your proper baking and cooking substitutions will help you get out of a jam if you are missing a key ingredient. Here is a handy little cheat sheet from The Fresh Cooky website.

During our research, we found recipes for meals you can make in 10 minutes from the Taste of Home website. In addition, the Prepper Survive website has food storage recipes by PDF.

When you come across recipes online print the recipes and add them to your Survival Cookbook.
